Tara Strong wasn't the only awesome celebrity to attend SLC Comic Con in March 2017, one of my best friend's (PurpleRoselyn)'s idol Jess Harnell was attending as well! For those of you unaware of who Jess is, he is the voice of Wakko from Animaniacs (her all-time favorite cartoon series) as well as TONS of other iconic characters such as Roger Rabbit from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and Cedric the ditzy magician in Disney's "Sofia the First" (All three shows I love and watch myself!). Because I wanted to make a shadow box for Tara Strong to sign, I decided to help my friend make one for Jess to sign too! She sketched out Wakko, and then I cut and assembled the pieces making it into 3D paper art. I also designed, drew, cut, and assembled the water tower which we made for Jess to sign on. Wakko is set against a light green background with cute little polka dots engraved in it-- which makes it look fun and cartoon-y! Although the lighting in this image suggests the whole thing looks kinda yellow-ish, I assure you that's not really the case, darn my inability to take good photos of these darn boxes!
When Jess saw the box for the first time, unfortunately I was across the hall getting my own box signed by Tara Strong, but my friend has relayed the story to me and I couldn't be more thrilled!
When Jess saw it, he was ECSTATIC! Unlike pony voice actors (who have seen this kind of artwork to sign several times thanks to the talented fandom like Paper Ponies) this was something he had never seen before. He loved it so much, that he gave my friend an additional glossy-printed image of all three animaniacs and signed that one as well saying: "To *name omitted* my new favorite artist". He also posed for a photo with her-- which usually would have cost money but he did it for free! Later at a panel at that same convention, he remembered my friend BY NAME and gave her a shout-out while on that panel. Needless to say, this was one of the most humbling and awesome reactions to something I've helped create... EVER (by a celebrity).
If it's hard to read what Jess said, here is a transcription:
This is the faboo-est. And so are you. Wakko (Jess Harnell)
And a special shout-out to Purple of course who drew the sketch I used and had her Senpai notice her in the best way possible, PurpleRoselyn:purpleroselyn.deviantart.com/
